Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Cost Engineer to be an integral member of the construction accounting team. The role requires close collaboration with project executives to perform detailed reviews and internal audits of residential construction project budgets and job status reports. The Senior Cost Engineer will also provide company-wide cost control training, prepare financial reporting, and ensure accuracy in cost and profit projections.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Review and maintain budgets and job status reports for a portfolio of construction projects on a monthly rotation
  • Provide monthly profit projections and dashboards to management based on the monitoring of construction projects
  • Hold job status meetings with the stakeholders and project teams to review job status reports
  • Mentor and guide junior cost engineers and other team members
  • Provide systems training to office and field staff in project management software
  • Compile various monthly financial reports for company executives
  • Analyze project costs, identify potential risks and opportunities for cost savings, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in preparing new construction project proposals for the CFO's review
  • Support project executives in cost reporting, projections, subcontract, and change order management of construction projects
  • Provide cost-related input and recommendations to project teams and senior leadership for decision-making - Reconcile, review, and audit performance of jobs via project management software
  • Understand and continually develop company-wide cost control best practices

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Construction Management.
  • 5-7 years of experience, preferably in construction cost management.
  • Strong understanding of cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control techniques.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel); experience with Procore and Timberline preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and risk analysis abilities.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Procore & Timberline (preferred)
  • Project cost management and control software

Experience Advantage

  • Experience providing company-wide cost training and guidance.
  • Strong background in residential construction projects.
  • Hands-on experience with subcontract and change order management.
  • Familiarity with compiling dashboards and executive financial reporting.
